Exposure is going to be no longer than a few hours at a time and I am not doing any cleanup so I won’t be stirring the area too much there are pipes with broken insulation in some areas that I will be walking past. Thanks in advance! OSHA and the EPA’s sites are remarkably unhelpful :-/

Well, as you probably guessed, there was such a vote. We needed 60 votes to prevail, and 59 of them were in. But John McCain ducked the vote.
As a result, instead of powering millions of homes with clean energy and building next-generation solar technology, we’re giving ExxonMobil and other companies billions in tax breaks at a time when they’re already making record profits. What say you ?

David Tanguay asked: Harvey M Sachs, PhD and director of the Buildings Program at the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy came up with the following 9 methods that a home owner can utilize in order to become more efficient.
1. Make sure your walls and attic are well insulated. When one has insulation properly installed, it can dramaticallyslow the rate that heat leaves the house. If your walls are already insulated, this does not usually present a problem. However, in homes where walls have not been insulated properly and instead have cavities where hot air can leak out, it would be prudent to look into blown-in insulation to fill up those empty spaces.
2. Upgrade or replace windows. Often times, in older houses, windows can have a tendency to “leak.” When you begin to think about replacing them, it is best to look into those windows with an Energy Star rating. However, do not go out and purchase windows just in the attempt to be more energy efficient. Because windows account for less than fifteen percent of heat loss, it would be wiser to look into other areas to become more efficient.
3. Plant shade trees and shrubs around the house. One way to combat the presence of poor insulation within walls and windows is to plant greenery. The benefits of trees and shrubs are twofold. Not only do they block the sun’s hot rays in the summer with the foliage, they allow these same rays through in the winter due the barren branches on the plants.
4. Replace an older furnace with a high-efficiency system. Furnaces built prior to 1992 may be wasting an unbelievable thirty-five percent of the fuel used. There are updated furnaces on the market that will waste ten percent or less of the fuel used. The annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) may be determined through the aid of a heating service technician or energy auditor.
5. Improve the efficiency of your hot water system. The first step is to turn the setting on the hot water heater down to warm, which is 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Next, insulate hot water lines, reducing their ability to cool in between uses. The use of low-flow fixtures will increase efficiency when used for showers and baths. Rather than replacing a perfectly good hot water heater, try the above steps.
Steps 6 through 9 will be discussed in the next article… so stay tuned!

Liam G asked: With many major energy suppliers either looking into or utilising renewable forms of energy to meet the demands placed on them, customers have started to question about whether they can utilise such methods themselves.
The following methods of home energy generation are likely to appeal more to those whom wish to power their home using green energy and/or those living in areas that are out of the reach of conventional energy sources.
The first and currently most popular method utilised is harnessing the energy of the sun by using solar panels. The solar panels consist of photovoltaic solar cells which when heated by the sun create an electric field resulting in a flow of electricity.
Solar technology has increased over the years as its potential as a renewable energy source has been better proven. Today you are able to replace your homes tiling with solar roof tiles, which has the potential to generate enough energy for a third of the average homes’ energy.
It’s worth noting that the amount of energy derived from a solar system is highly dependent on geographical location, with sunnier regions getting the most advantage from such methods.
Another popular source of alternative energy is wind power that is harnessed from wind turbines which, when spun turn a rotor and produce electricity.
Currently, this form of generation is restricted to large wind farms, situated in places where the wind is at it’s strongest, such as out at sea, or in mountainous areas.
However, an increase in customer interest has meant that similar turbines should be fit for urban environments within the next few years.
The other options available to consumers are the use of biomass to fuel their homes, or the installation of a geothermal system. The main problem with all of the methods discussed is the cost, which can be anything from £1K to £18K.
It is likely that it will be large businesses and corporations that really reap the benefit of such generation methods.
If you are interested in alternative methods of electricity generation and feel your electricity bills are getting a little steep then it may be worthwhile having a look online, where you are likely to find cheap electricity rates.
